The recipe author’s “Teccino” is the commercial herbal coffee Teeccino: dark-roasted carob, barley, and chicory root for body and coffee-like bitterness, sweetened and rounded by dates, figs, and almonds. It brews like coffee (drip, French press, pour-over) with zero caffeine.

Quality criteria

Two things to get right. First, blend identity: the recipe’s ingredient list — roasted carob, barley, chicory root, dates, figs, almonds — matches Teeccino’s classic “Mediterranean” line, currently sold as Hazelnut, Java, and Vanilla Nut (each is that six-ingredient base plus a natural flavor). It does not match today’s “Original,” which was reformulated to carob/barley/chicory/ramón seed; the old Original formula lives on as the “Orange” flavor.
